4AD CALENDAR
11′ X 17′ POSTERS
OVERVIEW
BRIEF
The project aimed to create a calendar that visually interprets The Pixies’ music, translating the emotional and thematic essence of each song into graphic design. Drawing inspiration from the innovative work of 4AD Records in the 1990s, particularly Vaughan Oliver’s designs, I sought to reflect the same creative spirit in my work.
I listened to almost every song by the Pixies, from Trompe Le Monde to Waves of Mutilation, noting impactful lyrics that resonated with me. These lyrics were tied to specific months, serving as the foundation for each design. The process evolved from initial sketches into bold, dynamic artwork, all of which was created by me, including the photography. This calendar represents a personal and visual response to The Pixies’ music, merging graphic design with the raw energy of their songs.
Below are the 12 calendar months, starting with the cover and ending with the ’13th month of Jack’ that Vaughan always included.
